Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication is an advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery performed for the treatment of severe gastroesophageal reflux and heartburn, which is caused by the flow of gastric acid back up into the esophagus, that causes severe inflammation, ulcerations, and in some patients can predispose for the development of esophageal cancer.

Traditionally this operation was done for many years using a large abdominal incision that causes severe pain after surgery, which required a prolonged hospital stay and long time out of work for the patient.

However, using minimally invasive laparoscopic technique and with overnight hospital stay, patients are able to go back to work and resume their normal activities in 10-15 days after the operation.
